Damned Patriots Day!
So, of course the first thing I went to do this morning was call the doctors office to get the blood test results. Yes, of course I am trying in vain to be proactive about this, I have already cut all soy out of my diet. This morning, I call and call and call and nobody answers. I try calling many times and still no answer. WHAT THE FUCK! It turns out that the office is closed because of fucking Patriots Day, a little holiday that we still observe in Massachusetts. So, I am pretty pissed off. Why was I told many times over to "call in the office monday". How come none of the 3 women in the office said anything about it being a long weekend. I am trying not to stew over this but I am so mad. I just want to know and start treatment ASAP! I have samples of synthroid at my house that the doc gave me for goodness sake!

Erin-What dosage of synthroid are the samples? Have you started taking them yet? I'm sure you probably have but if you haven't ...start now. Once you call tomorrow and the tests show an abnormality it should be as simple as calling in a prescription. I'm sorry they were closed today. HOW FRUSTRATING!
Probably not a good plan to take the synthroid w/o a dr's order although I know it is tempting as all hell. But I think you do need to have (calm but firm) words with the endocrinologist about the delays and mix-ups. Just let them know that while you certainly understand that they are a busy practice, you are very concerned about your baby's health and your own, you NEED their advice and input, and that kind of mix up and delay really needs to not happen any more. Truly the whole scene, from the delayed tests and results, delayed appointment, delayed return visit, unavailability, etc. is all not ok. Can you change endocrinologists? 'Cause right now you SO need the added stress of yet another practitioner, right?? But you need to be comfortable, and they need to work to make you comfortable, or you need to find someone who WILL. Advocate for Erin and the Belly Bump.

If the office is closed, what hospital do they practice out of? The Hospital does not close. At my hospital we send all types of blood work tests to Quest. Quest can be called 24 hours a day.
Also Endocrinogolist who are part of a group, always have someone on call. Which means you can call his office and the answering lady should give you the on call number. Then he calls you back.
Endocrinologist deal with many life threatening illnesses that need to be addressed immediately. Diabetic mothers who are in labor often will have an Endocrinologist calling every few hours asking me their blood sugar in order to test their dosage.
Sorry to hear of your distress. It is Tuesday so I imagine you have already found out your test result.
Hey Erin,
frequent visitor. My brother-in-law was just diagnosed with Lymphoma and they are now vegan with very little soy, seems protein feeds lymphoma. She has some great vegan recipes on her blog

My sister and I both are synthroid "users" and it is just a constant numbers game with those blasted levels. The medication really helps my mood swings and in my younger days it helped my weight. Before I got my thyroid under control I had a hard time getting pregnant. But 3 babies later I still have problems remembering to take that pill. Wishing you Good luck.
