Results

So after much anxiety and having to wait. Yes, the office was closed yesterday...then on top of that today I had to wait for the doctor to call in to review my results because he is away for 2 weeks! After all that the bloodwork showed that the level only went up .1, I think that is right. It was 4.91 3 weeks ago and as of friday was 5.1. So, I am starting 1 tablet (100 mcg) of synthroid tonight (and every night) before bed on an empty tummy, and I have my blood work re-checked in 6 weeks. I do feel a little better knowing that at least I can start being treated for this. However, I did make my great concern known to the nurse at the endo's office when I spoke with her. She made it clear that in no way was the doctor making me wait (3 weeks) for no reason to have the apt I had friday. That if after looking at my chart (3 weeks ago) I should have come in earlier then they would have had me come in. So, I don't really know how I feel about all that...and perhaps we will do some doc shopping. I was told about a "more cutting edge" endo doc that is only about an hour from our house. He has written a book about hypothroidism and also has a video that I watched where he talks all about hypothyroid and he seems to really "get it". Plus he has a very holistic approach (i.e. diet, excersise, yoga etc) to treatment of hypothyroidism as well as using conventional medicines of course.

Anyway, I am feeling much less anxiety right now. So I feel good for now.

Glad to hear you are feeling better Erin!! When I read about you waiting to get into the docs office I can't help but share this one. Once when I went in for a physical my thyroid was enlarged. So off I went for a ultrasound. Then since that showed such enlarged nodes I had to see the surgeon to get biopsies done. Well I couldn't even get in for 3 weeks!! Talk about anxiety!! Thankfully after the 3 weeks and 2 biopsies they came back ok and had to get it repeated again in 3 months. But I swear sometimes when you have something that can cause someone to be so anxious to know what is going on they should just squeeze you in or something!! Well anyways.... so glad again you are feeling better, I just believe you are going to be A-OK!!;)

Erin-Glad to see you have been reading. That is a great dosage he started you at. It should kick your thyroid into gear quickly. I'm very happy you are getting it sorted out. Also happy to hear that you have eliminated the soy. I hope you are able to get enough protein from other sources. I'll be keeping an eye on your blog for progress reports!

Yay! Which direction is the "more cutting edge" endocrinologist in? Hmmm...

Hi Erin, you had gone pw protected for a while and so I lost touch with your blog. Today I happened to click on a link to you and found I could access again.

Congratulations on your new pregnancy! I am also hypothyroid (Hashimoto's) and took thyroxine supplements all the way through my pg with Beanie. My levels were regularly checked and I didn't go back to see my endocrinologist throughout - my OB just asked for the bloodwork to be done about once a month.

You haven't updated in a while. How are you doing? It was gorgeous last week so I bet you were out having a fabulous time with Macy.
Love to you,

Erin:

Just went to a conference on Loss. It was done by Emily Lazar. She is a grief counselor in Massachusetts. She was wonderful. I think you are in Massachusetts. If you get a chance to see her, definitly go. She was excellent.
