DENIED!

Really briefly, want you to know that MassHealth sucks an even bigger one! I have been denied a hearing. BUT, there is a premium assistance program available. This program pays for most of the monthly premium cost, leaving us a small (in comparison) amount to pay. I spent a good amount of the afternoon on the phone yesterday before finding out about this program (they don't just offer up the information), so they are investigating Matt's insurance and are going to let us know what to do. So in the meantime I am insurance-less. That's OK, just as long as I have insurance again within the 60 Day? window...I think it's 60 days.

Also, I re-weighed Holdyn after his bath this AM, he is more like 15 lbs! PHEW!

Remember when:

I am in North Carolina and the same thing happened to me. Except I was denied 30 days after I gave birth to our little man. Even though I am breastfeeding and my health still effects the health of my baby! So unfortunately I have been without insurance since November! It totally sucks especially since I know that my sister-in-law had her baby 2 years ago and was covered as long as she was breastfeeding! It makes me so mad that our govenment can't see that Mommies need help too. At least our little man is covered for the next year, like your little Holdyn. It still sucks about us though. I am with you! Even though I don't live in Mass. let me know if you start a pettition!

i thought MA was the state with the humane insurance coverage. This stinks. What a sweetheart Holdyn is- he's clearly taking in the whole world with those big eyes of his.

Ugh! I am sorry you have to deal with this. I don't have MassHealth, but we applied for it with Henry. To commisserate, I thought I would share my two "favorite" stories about my experience with MassHealth:

1) After Henry died I got a bill for a monthly premium for MassHealth. He had been approved for it the day he died and we never used services--because we didn't know he was approved until after he died. Obviously we weren't going to pay the bill, but I had to talk to SIX different people to clear it up. Of the six, one person said, "I'm sorry for your loss."

2) Before that, maybe three weeks after Henry died, I called MassHealth to see if they needed a copy of the death certificate to close his account. The first guy I talked to had me give my SSN, Henry's SSN, Henry's full name, date of birth and address. Then he said, "How can I help you?" I said, "Henry was recently approved for MassHealth, but he died in December." He said, "Who?" I said, "My son, Henry, who we just identified." Then he put me on hold before transferring me to another department. That woman was really nice and expressed sympathy, but she said I had to talk to Customer Service. So I start talking to the third person, weary of the process already. I identified myself and said, "I'm calling because my son Henry who was recently approved for MassHealth died in December." The response: "And?"

The tone was "why are you wasting my time." I could barely speak to finish the call and literally could barely stand afterward.

My son died.

And?
