30 Weeks With Bunny

Holy shit!

Not that I am in disbelief that we have made it this far, because in my heart I truly want to believe that this baby is going to make it. It's just that in the very early weeks of this pregnancy I was on such shaky ground. So unsure and so very scared. Somehow I have been able to work through those feelings, not that they do not linger, they do. They are just not at the forefront. I am really making an effort to be positive and so far it seems to be working for me, for us.

So, here I sit, 30 weeks pregnant. As of yesterday's Midwife appointment (we are going every 2 weeks now), my glucose test was great as was my iron level, I only gained nearly 2 pounds in 2 weeks and baby Bunny's head is DOWN! All good news. There isn't a big concern about my weight, but there is a little bit of one since I have already gained nearly 34 pounds. To counter too much more gaining I have been diligent about going to the Y 3 times a week and using the elliptical for 40-50 minutes, and I have still been walking Ms. Macy 2-3 times a day for at least 30 minutes at a time (sometimes longer if it's not too hot!). It is still feeling so good to work out, and get the amount of exercise that I am getting. I think that I have more energy at this time than I had with Birdie...maybe, I could just be making that up.

This next week is going to be interesting, we are watching my parents dog (for a week), and he is just over a year old. He is a little bit naughty at times, you have to be really firm with him to get his full attention (he's also a little bit goofy). Anyways, he is here and Macy is here and here am I. Matt is on a mini tour with his band, so I am pretty much house bound until sunday. I'm very thankful though that Macy has a good friend in Booda (my parents dog), they love each other very much. Anyways, I am rambling here.

p.s. the Hypnobabies class ROCKS! I wasn't sure how receptive I would be to the self-hypnosis, but I AM and its SO INTENSE! Using this, and going to a Hypnotherapist to work out our birth fears/fear triggers is really going to help us.

That is so wonderful that you're enjoying it so much and are so open to it working for you. You can't imagine how antsy I sit in my seat right now with a big ol grin on my face. I'm happy for you guys. And excited that your little bunny is 30 weeks already!

30 weeks! :) You are doing SO well with the exercising...I am going to use you as a role model. I need to get moving. I have been gaining TOO much weight. Our two babies (Bunny and Sir Baby) will be just weeks apart!

Wow, it seems like it's just flying by. My sister & sisters-in-law said their easiest pregnancies and births were when they were exercising regularly.

If I am ever able to get pregnant again, I am definitely going to check out Hypnobabies. I listened to the Hypnobirthing CD (which was just 2 20-minute guided relaxations/visualizations) the last 2 months of my pregnancy and even that was really helpful.

My MIL really swears by the whole hypnosis thing. She spent this last weekend at a retraining seminar. She's going to teach me to self hypnotize into peace and tranquility.

I am 33 weeks! Yes a baby can survive now! As for hypnobaby I would love to take that class but no one around here offers it!

Erin-you look great! I don't think 34 pounds at 30 weeks is really TOO much weight gain. Didn't you start out on the smaller side anyway? Some women put their weight on earlier in the pregnancy and then just don't really gain so much in the end, even though that is when baby packs it on. I thought you may be interested in this article.

Weight gain in pregnancy is a frequent concern among our clients who want to know how much to gain and at what rate. Some want to know why they need to put on what seems to many of them to be an inordinate amount.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a better indicator of maternal nutritional status than is weight alone. The BMI is readily determined with the use of a pocket calculator by dividing weight in pounds by height in inches, dividing by height in inches again and then multiplying by 705. (Editor's Note: You can find an online BMI calculator at www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_BMI/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm; or, if you prefer to use metric units, at www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_BMI/metric_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm.)

Underweight women should be encouraged to gain weight slightly greater than one pound a week in the second and third trimesters, for a total of 28–40 lb. Overweight women should gain slightly greater than half a pound a week, for a total weight gain range of 15–25 lb. Obese women are counseled to gain at least 15 lb., to optimally support their pregnancy…. (Note: This 15 lb. rule is being re-evaluated, with some advocating weight maintenance and others even weight loss for morbidly obese women; until studies are done, the jury is still out.)

The BMI is a useful tool based on available research and scientific literature giving clients another way of approaching a healthy pregnancy with optimal outcome. The BMI is easily used and can be taught to clients for life-long weight evaluation.
